Trio Metro is a jazz trio playing in the greater Athens area and is composed of Mindy Towe on Sax, Tracy Reynolds on Keys, and Ron Balthazor on Drums. The trio is regularly joined by the fabulous Liz Farrell on vocals, ukulele, and percussion. Each member of the group has a long musical history and an array of musical experiences. Trio Metro 's music most often comes from the jazz standards of the Great American Songbook (think Ella Fitzgerald and Nate King Cole), though they love to play more contemporary covers as well. Trio Metro is equally at home playing for clubs, parties, and weddings as we are for aficionados of the Lindy-Hop.

Bios

Mindy Towe

The Towe family across multiple generations are musicians, and Mindy with her husband Scott and children Mason and Lauren have been playing together as Check the Signs in Athens and surrounds for years. Mindy plays an array of instruments with Trio Metro , and regularly solos on Alto Sax with Big Band Athens.

Tracy Reynolds

Tracy has a rich musical heritage with a bachelor and masters degrees in music education, road experience with a contemporary Christian rock band, studio experience with numerous genres and artists, and playing experiences, including local church, worship teams, big bands, swing bands, and a jazz sextet featuring mostly original material.

Ron Balthazor

With a mother who sang show tunes to her unborn son, Ron has had a long and sweet life in music. He first learned the basics of jazz as a college student playing standards with a piano trio in clubs around Atlanta. Beyond his work with Trio Metro , he plays with Big Band Athens. He and Tracy have played music together for over 45 years.

Liz Farrell

Liz Farrell brings a mix of contemporary, classical, and theatrical sounds as the vocalist for Trio Metro. Liz studied under Dr. Stephanie Tingler and Professor Michael Hadary, and received a music degree from the University of Georgia. Outside of Trio Metro, Liz performs in Athens as a singer-songwriter.
